Who did it best??

Walter Washington, Marion Barry, Sharon Pratt Kelly, Anthony Williams, Adrian Fenty. The one thing all of these people have in common, the have had the privilege of being the Mayor of the nation’s capital, Washington DC. All were elected by the citizens of the city to lead DC into great things. They all promised many things that they were going to do. They all came in with many outlooks of how things needed to be done. How a government that in some instances had run wild needed to be fixed.  They all left office with some level of failure and criticism on some things. But did any of them accomplish what they originally set out to do?             Walter E. Washington was appointed Mayor-commissioner in 1967 by the President of the United States. In 1974, he ran for Mayor in the first DC mayoral election and was...

A Child of An Abuser

Dear Daddy, As you may have already guessed, somebody said something to me that made me sit back and reflect. They said I worshipped you. Made you seem like a better man than you really were. That hurt my soul. That hurt my heart. Ultimately I am a daddy’s little girl. But I would like to think that through my writing I show nothing but complete honesty. Daddy you were a drug dealer and you use to abuse women. This was a part of you that I did not like—did not think that was right. I could never condone what you had did. And what made it worst was the fact that you did it in front of your kids. But you were my dad. And you were my world. You were the first man that I ever loved. I worshipped you. I made you seem like a better man than...

The Writer's Life 4/4

It was a gorgeous day, not a cloud anywhere, the temperature mild, negating the effects of the breeze. Political Man stopped by the floating bookshop, telling me about his trip to the dentist. It wasn't long before he went into full campaign mode, telling each person passing: "Four more years, tax the rich, keep women's rights." He attracted a Russian gentleman, and they fell into a lengthy discussion which, inevitably, turned to PM's favorite subject, marijuana. PM claims legalization will lead to four billion dollars of tax revenue and solve all government shortfalls. If only. The Russian gentleman, who has never taken an illegal drug, was baffled and asked about the effects. Soon a crabby elderly woman, who has frequently told me of her hatred of Russians, joined the fray. I was getting it from three sides. Help! I wanted to shout. All I wanted to do was sell some books,...

I Go Where I Want To Go

In the aftermath of a painful truth about the death of an American boy on an American shore, I taught my racial psychology class, and the irony did not escape us last night. It is in the pre-holiday spirit where  the teacher does not want to teach; the students do not want to learn. Early dismissal and good-bye. But it just doesn't go down that way. Bright students really wanted me to say something. And of course there is only one topic in racial psychology this night. "So, what about the matter of Trayvon Martin?" And there is no variation of a theme. Crossing diverse color lines, there is no standing down in fighting stereotypes and race prejudice. A young man is dead and forever is a long time, though it may only seem a heartbeat away. Someone asks,"Where is his chance for children?" It is a depressing thought before saying,...

Trayvon Martin: The suspicious behavior behind HIS untold story PART 2

As of April 02, 2012 George Zimmerman has not been charged with any crimes at all.  That is the reason why I wrote this article.  Most importantly, did Trayvon commit any criminal acts the day he was killed?   I see at least three crimes Zimmerman committed before shooting Trayvon with one of these crimes punishable by death in most states*.   Stalking (he admitted that to the dispatcher) on public streets Inappropriate behavior with a juvenile Improper Detainment to Kidnapping* (OJ Simpson, this is how he got convicted) Displaying a weapon to promote fear Aggravated Assault to a juvenile   I also produced a re-enactment video demonstrating what I believed happened to Trayvon.   With the help from Diamond Touch Films’ Gregg Brown on camera and actor/model Drew “Bronzy” Cose to show according to the police reports what happened that.  What sticks out is the length of time of the assault. ...
