Gary Furnas’ ‘The Niburian Sequence’ tells a tale of high adventure, scientific intrigue around man’s age-old question
LINCOLNTON, N.C. – “Humankind, now more than ever, is still searching to determine if we are alone or if there is life among the stars and our relevance to them,” says author Gary Furnas. Inspired by this and his research into Sumerian clay tablets and their deciphering, he meshes the two concepts together in his novel, “The Niburian Sequence” (published by Xlibris), where the discovery of an ancient tomb leads to knowledge that could once and forever prove that humanity is not alone in the universe.
“The Niburian Sequence” takes readers from the deserts of the Middle East, across Europe all the way to London. Set in 1921, the story follows Susan Woolsey, a third generation explorer and one of the few women in the burgeoning field of archeology, who discovers an ancient tomb holding a treasure trove of ancient relics that tell a most incredible story. Her discovery puts her in direct conflict with numerous world governments, religious factions and various clandestine secret societies, all with the sole purpose of using the new knowledge for their own twisted agendas. With the help of fellow archeologist, Will Furness, Woolsey must deliver DNA samples from the tomb to London all while eluding pursuit by the world’s dark forces. It is a story of high adventure, scientific intrigue and a good old fashion treasure hunt.
“The Niburian Sequence” tells an intriguing story meant to invoke readers to make a critical analysis with regards to the true meaning of life. “I suspect that readers will have more questions than answers when they have finished,” says Furnas.

Hello my name is Gary Furnas and I am the author or the Niburian Sequence. My inspiration for this story originated in ancient Sumerian tablets that date to 3200 BC. According to the cuneiform text a civilization traveled from the planet Nibiru in search of gold, not for wealth but to save their world. The plan was to ionize the gold then distribute it among Nibiru’s atmosphere to create a reflective barrier in order to retain the planets’ heat.
The novel begins in 1921 in the Iraqi desert as the main character Susan Woolsey, a noted archeologist, discovers a royal tomb and inside the remains of what appear to be a Queen of very high status. The room is filled with gold and silver artifacts that display an expertise and technology that wouldn’t be realized for thousands of years. Susan suspects that this deity is directly related to the Niburian travelers that arrived so many thousands of years ago. In order to prove her theory she has to secret DNA samples back to London for conclusive tests. She soon learns that there are many who want to prevent her from ever reaching her destination. The adventure ensues with the help of an infamous Scottish artifact hunter and together they begin a quest that if successful would change the world as we know it.
So, if you like adventure, world travel, intrigue and romance then you will love the Niburian Sequence. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions through email at
