Speculative Fiction - Growing Genre or Passing Fad

How many of you read, write or know what Speculative Fiction consists of? I thought as a writer and reader of this up and coming genre, I had all the answers. Was I surprised to learn the vast, diverse range the genre encompassed.

Patti Hulstrand was a recent guest on the It Matters radio broadcast and addressed Speculative Fiction head-on. As the Manager of ConNotations, a magazine which consists solely of Speculative Fiction, she brought the listeners many tools to use in marketing and promotion.

I'd also love to hear from any of you who have written Speculative Fiction in any format.

Any attempt to anticipate what the future will be is a speculative fiction. Then, at a certain point, it turns out to be either the reality or just a fiction. A lot of books and films in the last century tried to describe how the year 2000 would look like. They were speculative fictions at that time. I think that it will remain a big trend, that people will always try to anticipate the future.
