Back In The Days......
Resolved Locked Unanswered

Remember the Sweet Pickles bus, Scholastic, or Pizza Hut reading programs? Those were the good old days when reading was greatly encouraged in society. Do you think the push to read is as influential today as it was then?

Sadly, Envy, I see a push for technology with culture taking a place in the background. I believe so many wish instant gratification, being too lazy to read and use their own imagination of what a character looks in their mind. I find individual imagination replaced by media driven images.
One of the greatest gifts we are given is our imagination and reading opens our minds to such wondrous journeys of fact and fiction. I hope we, as a society, will bring back reading programs.

Monica I completely agree. Instant gratification is the name of the game. Even in wake of technology the push to read should be greatly emphasized but it is not. I see more parents buying video games than buying books for their children to read on devices like the Kindle. I also see grammar falling completely by the wayside in wake of technology. It is now acceptable to speak in slang when typing but when faced with writing a business letter etc, the children are failing!
